Focus On... New Technologies
Radio over Internet Protocol (ROIP) - Link Radios and Radio Systems anywhere via IP
With RoIP, at least one node of a network is a radio connected via IP to other nodes in the radio network. The other nodes can be two-way radios, but could also be POTS telephones, softphone applications running on a computer such as Skype phone, PDA, smartphone or some other communications device accessible over IP. RoIP can be deployed over private networks of wireless base stations, as well as the public Internet. It is useful in land Mobile Radio systems used by public safety departments and fleets of utilities spread over a broad geographic area.
Radio over Internet Protocol (RoIP) uses modern technology to link otherwise incompatible systems, providing unprecedented interoperability for first responders. And the same technology of standards-based IP networks used to link incompatible systems is also used to link geographically distant systems – providing an affordable solution to the need for regional and even county -wide public safety radio systems.
RoIP uses proven VoIP (Voice over IP) technology already accepted for corporate telephone systems (over 10 million phones installed to date) with the push-to-talk (PTT) functionality required for use with land mobile radios (LMRs).
The result is interoperability without requiring first responders in the field to acquire new radios. Any radio technology including encrypted, digital, and conventional analogue can be interconnected.
If you have offices or locations that you would like to be connected using ROIP please call us on 01277 225254.

Case Study
Brentwood Townlink goes digital thanks to Brentwood Communications!
Brentwood Communications is proud to support the Townlink scheme operating in Brentwood which has at its heart the aim of preventing and reducing retail crime throughout the town by providing a hand held radio system linking retailers directly with the police and CCTV operators.
In collaboration with other local authorities and partnerships, Brentwood Communications has recently proposed the introduction of digital radios which will offer a better quality reception and wider coverage. The new radios will also offer additional features and are to be delivered to shops and businesses locally in the first two weeks in September.
In addition to the equipment supplied, users also receive one to one training ensuring that everyone will confidently be able to use the equipment when it is delivered.
Sgt Daniel Tan from Essex Police said 'Townlink radio has proved an effective tool for combatting retail crime in the town. The Police would like to see more extensive use of the radio and hope that the better quality coverage and wider spread will encourage more users onto the scheme.'
Brentwood Communications is also involved in a similar scheme in Southend on Sea and we invite you to visit www.bc-ltd.co.uk/news to learn more about our successes in this area.
For more information on how we may help you to establish a Townlink system for your area, please contact us on 01277 225524 and ask for James Miller.
